Legal Clinic Assistant

You will be responsible for scheduling and conducting pre-legal clinics in collaboration with the Legal Team Coordinator. You will also be responsible forparticipating in weekly meetings with the Legal Team Coordinator as well as the Legal Aid Program Manager. Last but not least, you will engage both with community members and the members of the Bridge Team.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule pre-Legal Clinics.

  • Welcome community members at the Lisbon Project.

  • Attend pre-Legal Clinics during which you will collect information about the request of the community member.

  • Write up notes during the pre-Legal Clinics.

  • Fill out necessary monitoring sheets.

  • Attend weekly meetings with Legal Team Coordinator and Legal Aid Program Manager.

  • Work in close collaboration with the Bridge Team.

  • Support the Program Manager in any tasks related to coordinating, communication, monitoring and reporting of the Legal Clinic as requested.

  • Assist the Legal Team Coordinator in managing the legal cases.


Requirements

  • Fluent in Portuguese and English

  • Writing skills in both languages 

  • Detail oriented

  • Good organizational skills

  • Knowledge of working in a legal setting and ideally of Portuguese immigration law is a benefit.

  • Knowledge of the Portuguese legal system, law firms and foreseeing the needs of the beneficiaries is a benefit.

  • Dedication to serving immigrant communities with a sincere commitment to working on behalf of low-income immigrants and refugees.

Time Commitment: 15-20 hours, minimum of 6-months commitment.
