Better Together Kids Activities Facilitator

Better Together is a program of the Community Life Department that organizes bi-weekly meetups to encourage engagement, connection, and friendship amongst the women of the community during workshops and social gatherings, while also providing them the opportunity to develop new skills and feel more empowered. Many women have kids they have to look after and are therefore not always available to come to these women’s activities.  


As a Better Together Kid's activities facilitator, you will facilitate the participation of women to better together activities by looking after their kids during the activities. You and at least two other volunteers will be responsible for organizing activities for the kids every two weeks and looking after them while their mothers are taking part in the better together activities. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute kid’s gatherings (along with other volunteers) during better together activities 

  • Communicate frequently and effectively with the better together coordinator to know the dates of the women’s activities, and the number of children who will be present during the kid’s gatherings 

  • Communicate effectively and openly with the parents about the time, date, location and overall organization of the kids’ activities 

  • Keep a record of the attendance of the kids at the gatherings 

  • Ensure the children’s safety at all times 

  • Be punctual and communicate if a problem arises 

  • Address inappropriate and disciplinary issues promptly 

  • Update supervisor with challenges and ideas 

  • Attend all relevant Lisbon Project meetings and trainings for volunteers 

Requirements

  • Must have experience and passion with working with children.  

  • Fluency in English 

  • Interpersonal communication skills, including effective listening. 

  • Must be committed, motivated, innovative and creative 

  • Dedication and passion for working with children 

  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions, and backgrounds. 

  • Police Clearance Certificate required upon acceptance of application.
