summary:

The Lisbon Project is a non-profit organization that exists to protect and integrate the lives of migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon. We are currently seeking a Portuguese teacher trainer or a qualified and experienced Portuguese teacher to support our Portuguese volunteer-teachers in delivering amazing classes. We mostly offer intensive courses for levels A1 and A2 of six hours a week for 12-14 weeks on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most lessons are in person at Lisbon Project, but once a week (on Mondays), all courses meet online. The Teacher Trainer’s principal role is to help the volunteer teachers feel confident and to provide guidance in the teachers’ classroom approaches, using a range of teacher-support tools (mentoring, observation-feedback, workshops, among others).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out at least one observation of each teacher per semester, providing the teachers with either written or oral constructive feedback in a kind and supportive way.

  • Keep a record of the lessons observed and the feedback provided.

  • Meet the team, via formal teachers’ meetings, individually scheduled meetings and ad hoc on-premises contact, to better engage with the volunteers and to stay updated with the activity.

  • Plan, organize and deliver short and practical training sessions based on the findings in the observations.

  • Inspire and motivate the volunteer-teachers to learn and put new teaching methods into practice.

  • Maintain frequent and open communication with the Education team of the Lisbon Project to report on findings and discuss opportunities for improvement.

  • In everything we do, remember our students at Lisbon Project need to learn Portuguese, but the main goal is that they integrate into Portugal and strengthen their feeling of belonging in this country, so it feels like home.

Requirements:

  • Native or C1 level of Portuguese

  • Qualified in language teaching.

  • At least 5 years’ experience teaching languages.

  • A conversational level of English would be ideal.

  • Commitment of 3hs a week, in person or online. Hours can be distributed weekly or monthly.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective listening.

  • Openness to working in a team, with other Teacher Trainers and other staff members in the Education department.

  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions, and backgrounds.

BenefitS:

  • Working in a team that aims to create impact.

  • Making a considerable difference to the lives of migrants and refugees.

  • Work experience in a rewarding environment.

  • Feedback, training, and support to improve your teaching skills.

  • Meeting people from all over the world and hearing their stories.

We can’t do it without you!

Thank you for being a part of our team.
